... learned classical tablas with master Sufi Lahli in Afghanistan, before he began his professional career with a classical education at the conservatory of Karlsruhe, Germany. He has studied rhythms from virtually every culture. The constellation of his percussive instruments, the sensitive manner he plays them, and his virtuosic solo contributions accentuate compositions with magical sounds and rhythms that paint colorful musical pictures.

Hakim has worked as a studio musician for film and television. He has toured and performed with international stellar jazz musicians, such as Jonas Hellborg, Jeff Hamilton, Alex Acuna, Lenny Castro, Steve Smith, Luis Conte, Peter Maffay, Christoph Spendel, Naoki Kenji, Zappa’s drummer, Terry Bozzio, and the leading German singer, Konstantin Wecker.

Hakim’s style reflects numerous jazz and avant-garde influences from rhythmic traditions of Asia, Africa, and the Americas, that coalesce into what can be branded as a 'lyrical jazz' art of percussion.
